Introducing our new virtual series with Noa Porten: Making Mindfulness Yours

What actually is mindfulness and how can you apply it to everyday life with chronic illness in a way that works for you?

In this 8 week class series, Noa Porten, a meditation and mindfulness teacher in training living with chronic illness, will demystify meditation and mindfulness with accessible practices that can serve as tools for living and working alongside chronic illness.

Each week Noa will host a one-hour class filled with group activities, creative exercises and discussions on how to cultivate present moment awareness and make it into a practice that can meet you where you’re at.

Some things you’ll be learning:

  • What is mindfulness and what are its benefits and limitations?
  • What is meditation, how do you do it, and how do you make it accessible to your unique embodiment?
  • How to be present in everyday life and during everyday activities.

Noa Porten, is a meditation and mindfulness teacher in training, dancer, podcaster and inclusion advocate. Noa is passionate about creating inclusive spaces and making both dance and mindfulness accessible to the chronic illness and disability community. Noa studied Government at the University of Texas at Austin for 2 years prior to taking medical leave. While on break from school, Noa began her journey learning and practicing mindfulness as a way to live alongside chronic illness. This led Noa to her current studies as a meditation & mindfulness teacher. She will graduate from the Interdependence Project’s (IDP) 200 hour meditation and mindfulness teacher training program in December 2021, with a certificate from the International Mindfulness Teachers Association. At IDP Noa is studying under experienced meditation and mindfulness teachers such as Kimberly Brown, Mona Chopra, Oneika Mays, Emily Herzlin, Nandini Naik and more.

The intersection of mindfulness & movement has been a particular passion for Noa as a lifelong dancer who’s used mindfulness as a tool to rediscover and redefine dance with chronic illness. In turn, Noa has also found dance to be useful in cultivating present moment and body awareness. Noa has 10 years of dance experience, and is currently a member of ComeBacks Dance Company. Noa attended Axis Dance Company Summer Dance Intensive & Inclusive Dance Teacher Training 2021.
